A visit to the Kakheti region - famous not only for interesting historical facts and beautiful natural landscapes, but also for the unique taste of real Georgian wine. And where else to try it, if not in the homeland of Georgian winemaking - in Kakheti. We will visit several interesting places, one of which is Bodbe - a national Georgian shrine. Bodbi Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located in Kakheti, two km from Sighnaghi. The relics of the enlightener of Georgia, the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nino, rest in it. Before her death, Saint Nina retired to the town of Bodbe, and there, having served for some time, she was buried. Soon, at the request of King Mirian over the grave of St. Nina a church was erected in honor of St. George - the heavenly patron of Georgia, and a monastery arose near him. The originally built temple at the burial place of St. Nina has not been preserved to our days, in its place was built a cathedral in the name of St. George, in the southern aisle of which is the national Georgian shrine - the tomb of St. Nina. The temple is also the center of the Signagh diocese. It has the appearance of a three-nave basilica, was originally built between the 9th-11th centuries, but has been significantly modified since then. A separate three-story bell tower was erected in the second half of the XIX century. Immediately after the temple there is an observation deck with a beautiful view of the Alazani Valley, followed by a path down to the source of St. Nina. It is believed that the source is healing. It is located 3 km from the monastery. The holy spring is located under the small temple of Zebulun and Sosana (parents of St. Nina), which was built in the 1990s. Another attraction of the monastery is one of the most revered icons of Georgia - the miraculous miraculous Iveron icon of the Mother of God (located in the Cathedral of St. George). Lunch at a local restaurant (for an additional fee - 10 Euro per person in case of a festival package with 2 meals a day). Then we will visit Sighnaghi - a city of love, romance and arts, a fortified city located on a high hill in the center of the Alazani Valley. After that, we will walk along the winding streets running into the distance, visit the ancient fortress, enjoy the stunning view of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains ringing it. Return to Tbilisi.
- Excursion to one of the most famous and rarest monuments - the cave city of Uplistsikhe, which is located in the vicinity of Gori on the banks of the Kura River - 20 Euro per person.
The oldest fortified city, carved into the volcanic rocks of the Kvernaki ridge, was first mentioned in the annals of the 1st century. BC e., and reached its heyday by the 9th-10th centuries. 10 km from Gori, is one of the rarest monuments in the world - Even from afar, this quaint rocky city fascinates with its unusual appearance. As if giant pores on the rocks are gaping cave grottoes, inside which life once boiled. Here were once huge majestic halls, temples, dwellings, interconnected by winding corridor streets. It is hard to believe that this grandiose titanic work to create an entire city from a stone firmament is the creation of human hands. Several hundreds of different structures were carved into the rock - temples, public buildings, houses, streets, squares, etc. Despite the non-standard construction of the building in Uplistsikhe, the samples of terrestrial architecture with columns, pilasters, capitals, arches and vaults are exactly repeated. The city was surrounded by a protective moat encircling the city from east and north. Uplistsikhe had four entrances oriented to the cardinal points. In the cave city, the outstanding two-columned reception hall of Queen Tamara, with arched niches and huge pylons, has been preserved. It stands out for its size, perfect technical performance and grace of architectural forms. Some living quarters, the wine of the vault, parts of churches and fortress walls, a secret underground tunnel through which Uplistsikhe remained intact supplied with water. Uplistsikhe was a cult temple city, a large pagan center until Georgia adopted Christianity (IV century). All kinds of pagan rituals were held here, sacrifices were made. Then Christian churches began to be built here. In the XIII century, as a result of the devastating invasion of the hordes of Genghis Khan in Georgia, Uplistsikhe finally fell. In the 19th century, Uplistsikhe was completely covered with a layer of earth and sand. It took a lot of work and extraordinary efforts by many specialists to excavate, clear, strengthen, restore and study this outstanding monument in the history of Georgian culture, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Lunch in the restaurant (for an additional fee - 10 Euro per person in case the festival package with 2 meals a day) in the ancient capital of Georgia, Mtskheta. Return to Tbilisi.
