Competition is made with the support of the Chairman of the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Council Sviatoslav Oliynyk and General Director Yurii Simonov.

   Competition in Greece

  The  Vocal Competition is of particular importance in the competitive life of vocalists from different countries and opens the way to success and a global career. Giorgio Merighi is world famous tenor, who, as a young man, won a competition at the Experimental Theater and from that moment on, his international career brought him to the most prestigious opera stages in the world!

We invite you to take part in the International Vocal Competition named Giorgio Merighi “ Seven Continents Applaud” that opens up amazing opportunities and ovations for the best halls in the world!

Qualifying round and semi-final in Greece, will be held from March 25 to March 31, 2020 in Katerini Paraliya.

As part of our competition, you will find an amazing atmosphere in the circle of like-minded people and colleagues, the Greek Riviera and Siesta, the magnificent Olympus and the myths of ancient Greece, delicious cuisine and an unforgettable emotions and experience!

General conditions of the competition

Art.1)

In the International Vocal Competition Giorgio Merigi “Seven Continents Applaud” can to take part  vocalists who, on 01.01.2020, were under 40 years old (for all types of voices).Vocalists aged 40+ can also apply and participate in an out-of-competition program.

Qualifying rounds and semi-finals will be held in:

                       1. Italy (Florence) February 26, 2020

        Cassa di Risparmio Auditorium, str. Pontinari 5, Florence

                                        Beginning at 10.00.

                 2. Italy (Verona) February 27-28-29, 2020

          Don Carlo Steeb Theater (Fondo Frugose),str. Caperle 11, Verona

                                          Beginning at 10.00.

3.Greece (Catherine's Paralia) 25-26-27-28-29-30 March 2020,

                           Grand Hotel Mediterranium Village,

            Str. Main (Main Street) Paralia - Korinos, Katerini Paralia 601 00.

The Final will start on May 01, 2020 from 10.00  at the Dnipropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (Dnipro, Ukraine)

(At will, participants can come an hour earlier, rehearse their program with a pianist or sing vocals).

Art.4)

Under the same program, qualifying, semi-final and final rounds will be held for participants in the 40+ category.

Contestants from any country in the world can participate in the competition if they are not banned from entering Ukraine for any reason.

Art.7)

The contestants have to present any three classical Italian or Russian arias for their choice, two arias from the operas presented to the Competition  (for his/her voice Art.3) jury choice, and to know one of the principal roles of above-mentioned Competition operas (Art.3) for his/her voice (recitatives, duets, terzets, quartets).

Art.8)

Finalists and winners of the Competition will perform the principal roles in the listed above operas within the Competition Opera’s  Festival after Final round of the Competition. The chosen contestants will be provided with accommodation and meals during all time period of the Festival, including the Final Gala Concert, which will close the Competition.

Art.9)

The contestants have to arrive beforehand, to find out the rules and schedule of rehearsals with a pianist.

Art.10)

Information on the results of qualifying rounds, Semifinal and Final rounds, as well as all information on the rules, rehearsals and program of the Competition will be posted on the Competition page, on the official website of Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, as well as on the information board in foyer of the Theater.

Art.11)The contestants, who successfully passes the qualifying round will be invited to participate in Semifinal and Final rounds of the Competition which starts with 01  of May 2020 at Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet (Dnipro city, Ukraine).

Art.12) During Semifinal and Final rounds of the Competition the contestants have to perform other aria at his/her choice, and an aria or ensemble (duet, tercet, quartet)  proposed by jury from the opera that the participant represents (a role from operas of the Competition for his/her voice).

Art.13)The contestants will be helped as for accommodation, meals, organizational issues of the Competition (information on the rules and program of the Competition, rehearsals, etc.).

Art.14)The contestants will be provided with pianists in accordance with individual schedule of each contestant.

Art.15)The jury will determine the winners of the qualifying rounds, Semifinal and Final rounds of the Competition as per results of its members voting.

The jury for each qualifying round is appointed by the organizers of the competition.

The decision of the jury is final one and not subject to appeal.

Art.16)Finalists and winners of the Competition, chosen by the jury, undertake to participate in Opera Festival and to perform the role presented by the contestant to the Competition. They will also participate in Final Gala Concert together with leading singers of Ukrainian and Foreign Opera Theaters.

Art.17) The contestants undertake to come in time at rehearsals to ensure compliance with the rules of all stages of the Competition and to show respect to other contestants, colleagues and members of the jury.

Art.18) Winners and finalists of the Competition participating in the performances of the Festival are provided with theatrical costumes, make-up artist, and participate at rehearsals with the director.

Art.19) Winners of the Competition are awarded money prizes as follows:

The contestants are awarded Special Prizes as follows:

- Prize of the jury

- Prize of the critics

- Audience Award

- Award to the youngest tenor

- Award to the youngest soprano

- Special Prizes of the distinguished guests of the Competition,

- Prize for the best role performed

- Prize to the best voice of the Festival

The contestants will be awarded participation in concerts and performances of Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet ( as the oraganizer of the Competition) and  in concerts and performances of other leading theaters of Ukraine, and also the opportunity to participate in concerts and performances in the Theaters in Italy, South Korea,  Japan, South Africa.  As well the contestants will receive an opportunity to conclude contracts with theaters of Ukraine, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Greece and Poland.

Each participant of the Competition Festival will be awarded a professional video recording of the performance, which he/she participated in.

Finalists and Winners of age group 40+ will be also awarded money prizes, various privileges, participation in the Competition Festival and Final Gala Concert.

Art.20)The contestants who violate the rules, behave badly towards their colleagues, members of jury, or convicted of any illegal actions will be immediately deleted from the list of contestants or deprived of prizes, awards and privileges.

Art.21)  Fee for participating in the First International Vocal Competition named G.Merighi "Seven Continents Applaud" is the equivalent of 80 euro at the exchange rate at the time of payment.

Art.22) The fee for participating in Competition is not refundable

Art.23)If the contestant do not follow the rules he/she has to refuse to participate in the Competition, or to refuse from the privileges received earlier, and to cover the damages (to pay imposed fine).

Art.24) The participant has to fill out a form (questionnaire), attach scanned copy of the passport (identity document), photo of the size 3 x 4 cm,  scanned receipt on payment (a document confirming payment of the fee, according to the amount of damage ).

Art.25) When a contestant submits an application, he/she completely agrees and accepts all the rules and conditions of the Competition, and is obliged to comply with them.

Art.26) Applications for participation in the First International Vocal Competition  Giorgio Merighi “ Seven Continents Applaud”

                will take place on February 27-28-29, 2020

    At the Don Carlo Steeb Theater, 11 Caperle Street, Verona.

          For the participants of the selection round in Greece

               applications are accepted until March 15 inclusive

Quslifyng  rounds and semi-finals of the competition will be held on April 25-26-27-28-29-30-30 at the Dnipropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater,

Art.27)The Final for all participants of the competition who have successfully passed the qualifying rounds and semifinals in Italy, Greece and Ukraine will take place on May 01, 2020

     on the stage of the Dnipropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

Art.28) The Final of the Competition will start at 10.30 am at the Dnipropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

Art.29) The competition organizers reserve the right to make information changes and amendments during the competition.

Such changes will be highlighted and published as a separate line on the competition page as important information for participants.

                                             8. Silvio Zanon (Italy) (baritone)

Soloist at the La Scala Theater in Milan, the Bolshoi Theater, the Vienna Opera and the” Liceu” Theatre  in Barcelona, the Tokyo and Athens Opera, the German Opera  Berlin, the Mumbai Theater (India) and Beijing. Winner of the 2010 “Santa Catherine d'Oro” Award for achievement in music. Actor, director, playwright, vocal teacher at the Conservatory in Salerno, repeated member of the jury of vocal competitions. 

 According to the results of the competition, winners of three degrees and Grand Prix winners, diploma winners, and festival participants are determined. All vocalists participating in the competition are awarded prizes and diplomas from the founders and organizers of the Competition.

                                                  The jury has the right to:

• not award all prizes;

• share prizes between performers;

• award special prizes to teachers for outstanding achievements;

• decide on the termination of a speech that goes beyond the scope of the regulation

                                                                  Awards

The winners of the first prizes and grand prix receive registered company cups of the Competition, Diplomas, gifts from sponsors, professional video recording of the performance of the Opera Festival in which he participated, etc.
